What's up, writers! 🤓 I'm deep into planning my epic fantasy series (think multiple POVs, tons of lore, the works!). My current setup is a chaotic mess of Google Docs, sticky notes, and random .txt files. It’s not working anymore.

I need a recommendation for free writing software that has serious organizational tools. I'm talking about the ability to create folders for chapters, character profiles, world-building notes, and maybe even a timeline view. I know yWriter is famous for this, but I'm curious if there are any newer, lesser-known options out there that rival it? Has anyone tried managing a super complex project with something like Manuskript?

Is it stable enough for daily use? I need to tame this chaos before I write a single word! Help me bring order to my universe!

For a free tool with serious organizational chops, check out Manuskript . It's open-source and offers a "fiction mode" with tools for characters, plots, and world-building notes. You can use the Snowflake Method to grow your idea from a single sentence to a full novel, and the outliner lets you organize scenes hierarchically . It also has a distraction-free mode for when you're actually writing .

Another great option is yWriter, which is stats-heavy and great for tracking scene-by-scene, character appearances, and POV . It's been around forever and is very reliable . Try Manuskript first for its modern features, but yWriter is a solid backup!
