Finally confident: How to spell writing correctly every time?

I used to have a mental block with the word 'writing.' I'd type it as 'writting' in emails and have to go back and correct it. It was such a common word that I was embarrassed to keep getting it wrong. Then I found a memory trick that actually works.

The trick is remembering that 'write' is the base, and you just add '-ing.' No extra letters. If you can spell 'write,' you can spell 'writing.' I also think about related words: 'writer' (one 't'), 'rewrite' (one 't'), 'handwriting' (one 't'). They all follow the same pattern.

Now I spell it correctly without thinking. The key was understanding why it's not 'writting' – the vowel sound is long, so no double consonant needed . If the vowel were short like in 'sit' becoming 'sitting,' then you'd double the 't.' But 'write' has that long 'i,' so it stays simple.

For anyone struggling with this word, just remember: write + ing = writing. You've got this!
