I'm a student at Texas A&M, and like many of you, I've been following the news about Brianna Aguilera, the 19-year-old Aggie who died in Austin back in November
. The whole situation is just devastating, and honestly, the conflicting information has made it even harder to process. I'm trying to understand what happened, but it feels like there are two completely different stories out there.
The Travis County Medical Examiner just ruled her death a suicide, citing blunt force trauma from a 169-foot fall, a toxicology report showing her blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit, and the presence of a suicide note found on her phone . The Austin Police Department reached the same conclusion, pointing to witness statements and a history of previous suicidal comments .
But then you have her family and their attorney, Tony Buzbee, who are openly disputing these findings. They've filed a lawsuit against the groups that hosted the tailgate, arguing that she was overserved alcohol while underage . They are also being very critical of the police investigation, calling it incomplete and accusing them of failing to interview key witnesses or secure video footage . It's a really confusing and painful situation for our community.
I know there are rules about discussing specifics, and we have to be sensitive. But I'm just wondering how other students are processing this. I heard Texas A&M honored her at the Silver Taps ceremony, which is a beautiful tradition, but it still feels so raw . For anyone who was closer to the situation or has more context, how are you coping? It's just a tragic reminder of how much pressure we can all be under and how important it is to look out for one another. If anyone is struggling, please remember the university has resources, and the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is always available .
