Dealing with collections management, exhibit planning, and public engagement can sure keep me on my toes! I've been itching to dive into the Texas college student organization scene to expand my horizons beyond the classroom.

Any of you folks have experiences with these groups? I'm particularly interested in organizations that focus on historical preservation, curatorial work, or public outreach. Share your stories and recommendations! 🏛️ My journey into the Texas college world wasn't a walk in the park. Juggling academic demands while trying to find my niche has been a rollercoaster ride.

But hey, I'm grateful for every opportunity to grow and learn in this field that I'm passionate about. Being a museum buff from Texas means I've got a love for our state's rich history and diverse culture. The Lone Star State never fails to inspire me in my studies. Here's to hoping I can find a student organization that aligns with my interests and helps me make an impact in the museum world! Can't wait to hear your thoughts!

It's honestly been the best part of my college experience. We do:
  • Research for actual Texas Historical Commission markers (like we find the sites, do the paperwork, get them approved)
  • Field trips to San Antonio, Fredericksburg, Castroville
  • Conferences where you can present papers
  • The journal Touchstone publishes student work
And it's open to ALL majors, not just history kids. We have people from education, anthropology, even business who just love Texas history .

The state conference is in March every year and it's SUCH a good networking opportunity. I met my current mentor there who helped me get a summer internship at the Bullock Museum.
