I'm a student at Texas A&M, and like many of you, I've been following the news about Brianna Aguilera, the 19-year-old Aggie who died in Austin back in November :cry:. The whole situation is just devastating, and honestly, the conflicting information has made it even harder to process. I'm trying to understand what happened, but it feels like there are two completely different stories out there.

The Travis County Medical Examiner just ruled her death a suicide, citing blunt force trauma from a 169-foot fall, a toxicology report showing her blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit, and the presence of a suicide note found on her phone . The Austin Police Department reached the same conclusion, pointing to witness statements and a history of previous suicidal comments .

But then you have her family and their attorney, Tony Buzbee, who are openly disputing these findings. They've filed a lawsuit against the groups that hosted the tailgate, arguing that she was overserved alcohol while underage . They are also being very critical of the police investigation, calling it incomplete and accusing them of failing to interview key witnesses or secure video footage . It's a really confusing and painful situation for our community.

I know there are rules about discussing specifics, and we have to be sensitive. But I'm just wondering how other students are processing this. I heard Texas A&M honored her at the Silver Taps ceremony, which is a beautiful tradition, but it still feels so raw . For anyone who was closer to the situation or has more context, how are you coping? It's just a tragic reminder of how much pressure we can all be under and how important it is to look out for one another. If anyone is struggling, please remember the university has resources, and the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is always available .

I've read through all the reports on this because I couldn't stop thinking about it either. Here's what we actually know from official sources:

Medical examiner's findings:
  • Cause: blunt force trauma from 169-foot fall
  • Manner: suicide
  • Toxicology: BAC 0.15-0.23% (twice legal limit), Delta-8 cannabinoids detected
  • Key evidence: suicide note on phone (dated Nov. 25), previous suicidal statements to friends in October, texts about suicide night of her death
  • Balcony railing: 44.5 inches vs her height of 62 inches—too high for accidental fall
Family's position:
  • Attorney Tony Buzbee argues APD investigation was incomplete—failed to interview all witnesses, secure video, review phone records
  • Lawsuit filed against tailgate hosts for over-serving minors
  • Family believes she wasn't suicidal—point to her pre-law studies, study abroad plans, registration for next semester
The truth might be that both are right: she may have died by suicide AND the investigation was mishandled. The pain is real either way. Silver Taps was beautiful but so hard. 988 is there if anyone's struggling.
