I'm from Laredo. TAMIU is the local university. Everyone here knows it. But I'm not sure I want to stay in Laredo forever.
Will employers in Dallas or Houston know what TAMIU is?
My advisor says: "The name is growing. But you'll need to do more networking than someone from UT or A&M." That's honest. But it's also scary. I looked at their career placement data. Most graduates stay in South Texas. But the ones who leave seem to do okay. I saw alumni at JP Morgan, Deloitte, and the big accounting firms. So it's possible. But it's not automatic. Here's my question: Is the extra effort worth the lower tuition? I could graduate debt-free. But debt-free with a less-recognized degree? Or debt-heavy with a famous name? I'm torn
