Is University of Houston really a “commuter school” or does it have campus life? 🚗

I'm starting at UH this fall and I'll be commuting from home. I heard it's a “commuter school” where everyone just goes to class and leaves. A student review said: “If you live off campus, you really have to make an effort to find community” . But another said: “The on-campus events are actually good, you just have to show up” . Which is true? Can I have a real college experience while commuting? 🤷‍♂️

I graduated from UH last year. Commuted all four years. Here's the truth: the school doesn't force community on you. At a residential school, you trip over friends in the dorm. At UH, you have to walk toward them. That's harder. But the community exists. I found mine through a club sport and a part-time job on campus. Without those, I'd have been lonely. Join something. Anything.
