Is West Texas A&M really in the middle of nowhere?

I'm considering West Texas A&M in Canyon. A student review said: “It's a small town. Amarillo is 20 minutes away. There's not much to do in Canyon itself, but the campus is nice.” Another said: “If you want city life, this isn't it. If you want a quiet place to focus, it's perfect.” I'm okay with quiet, but I don't want to be bored. What's the social scene like?

Here's the honest truth: yes, it's in the middle of nowhere. The closest Target is in Amarillo. The closest airport is tiny. But that's also the point. If you're easily distracted, WT is great. There's nothing to do except study. I got better grades there than anywhere else. Just depends what you want.
