Question about college mental health resources Texas

I've been on the hunt for mental health resources at Scholarships (my college), 'cause balancing these intense courses with lab reports and research proposals is harder than wrangling a stubborn Longhorn. 🐂

And let's face it, us physics majors can get lost in our own theoretical universes sometimes! Anyone else struggling to juggle the academic load while trying to keep our mental health in check? I could use some advice on where to find support within the Texas college system. Are there any hidden gems or secret spots on campus where I can unwind? 🌟

Okay, so I actually just finished my honors thesis on mental health comparisons between honors and non-honors students at East Texas A&M University.

Key findings that might help you:
  • High achievers (like physics majors) report significantly more perfectionism. The pressure to "do it all" is REAL.
  • Financial stress and lack of advisor guidance were the top things students said hurt their mental health.
  • No shame in seeking help – the students who used resources did better academically AND mentally.
My advice:
  1. Find your "third place" – not home, not lab. Somewhere neutral. For me it's a coffee shop near campus.
  2. Peer support – look for informal study groups where people also vent about life. Connection matters.
  3. The Counseling Center – if your school has one, USE IT. If they have session limits, ask about community referrals for longer-term care.
  4. 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline – saved in everyone's phone, just in case.
You're not lost in a theoretical universe alone. We're all out here wrangling our own Longhorns. 🐂❤️
