I'm a junior at University of North Texas in Denton, and I feel like people sleep on us because we're not in a major city (though we're close to Dallas) and we're not an SEC school. But honestly? That's part of the charm.

The music school is legendary. UNT has one of the best music programs in the country. The jazz studies program is world-famous. You hear musicians practicing everywhere—in dorms, on the quad, at 2 AM. If you're a musician or just love music, this is the place.

Denton is its own thing. Denton is a weird, wonderful little city. It's not a college town that dies without students—it has its own identity. The square is full of indie shops, record stores, and the best coffee. There's a music venue called Andy's where you can see local bands any night. The "Denton vibe" is hard to describe but it's real.

We have school spirit without the pressure. Football is fun but it's not the whole identity. People are here for the education and the community, not just to tailgate.

The cost is reasonable. Especially compared to private schools or UT.

If you're looking for a place with a creative, laid-back vibe, a killer music scene, and good academics without the pressure cooker environment, check out UNT.

Anyone else love Denton? What's your favorite spot on the square? 🎶

Current senior about to graduate and I'm literally not ready to leave Denton. 😭 The square at night with all the lights? The random live music spilling out of every bar? The fact that I can get tacos at 2am after a late practice session? It's the perfect college town honestly.

Also OP you're right about people sleeping on us. We have a TOP TIER music program and most people outside Texas have no idea. My cousin goes to Berklee and pays 3x as much and honestly? We're getting the same education for way less.
