I need some serious advice. I'm a senior at a magnet school in Houston, and I somehow got into both UT Dallas and University of Houston for Computer Science. My parents are super proud, which feels amazing, but now the pressure is on to pick the right one. My abuela keeps asking which one gets me a job faster.
I know UH is close to home, I could commute and save a ton of money, which is a huge deal for my family. I've also heard the internship scene in Houston is really good because of all the energy companies and startups. But I worry if I stay home, I'll miss out on the "college experience" and maybe not push myself enough.
Then there's UTD. Everyone says their CS program is top-notch and super theory-heavy. The campus looks so... new and quiet. Richardson has the Telecom Corridor right there, so maybe the job connections are even better? But it's farther from home, and I'm not sure about the social life. I've heard people call it a "suitcase school" where everyone leaves on weekends. Is that true?
I'm the first person in my family to go to a four-year university, so I really need to make this count. I can't afford to make a mistake. I want a place with strong career support, good professors, and a vibe where I won't feel lonely. Has anyone here had to make this same choice? Which school gave you better opportunities for internships and actually building a network? Help a compadre out!
