What's the commute like to SFA if I live off-campus?

I'm considering living off-campus at SFA to save money, but I'm worried about parking and commuting. A student review said: “Parking can be a nightmare if you don't get a pass early” . Another said: “The commuter lot is fine, but the shuttle schedule is inconsistent” .

I've heard that Nacogdoches is a small town, so nothing is far from campus. A local student said: “If you live within a few miles, the drive is 10 minutes. The challenge is finding parking once you get there” .

The university offers several parking permit options. A reviewer recommended: “Buy the general permit. It's cheaper, and you'll eventually figure out where to park” . Another said: “Arrive early your first week to scope out spots. After the first few weeks, things settle down” .

I'm also curious about safety. Is the area around campus safe for walking? A student review said: “I felt safe walking around campus at night, but off-campus can be darker” .

For current SFA students who commute, what's your routine? How early do you need to arrive? Is the cost savings worth the hassle? I'm trying to decide if living off-campus is the right choice for me. 🚙

Opra, I'm a senior who's commuted all four years. Here's my routine:

Morning: Leave home at 8:15am. Arrive campus 8:30am. Park immediately (before 9am is key). Walk to class. Arrive 8:45am. Class at 9am.

Afternoon: If I have a gap, I stay on campus. Not worth driving home and back. I study in the library or student center.

Evening: If I have a night class, I move my car to a closer lot after 4:30pm (when permits open up). That's a pro tip.

The cost savings are huge. I've saved thousands. The hassle is real but manageable. Just don't expect to roll out of bed 10 minutes before class. You need to plan.
