How do transfer students make friends at UT?

I thought making friends in college would be easy. Everyone says "just join clubs" or "talk to people in class." But when you transfer in as a junior, everyone already has their groups. They're not mean — they're just not looking for new friends.

The Transfer LLC seems designed exactly for this problem. It's a living community where all the students are transfers, so everyone is looking to connect . They live together in Jester East, have peer mentors, and organize events specifically for transfer students .

But I can't live on campus — I have an apartment lease. So what are my options?

A UT Austin advisor told me about other resources:
  • Transfer-Year Experience Program — events and workshops specifically for transfers
  • Transfer mentors — upperclassmen who were transfers themselves
  • Student organizations — there are hundreds, and many are welcoming to new members
I joined two clubs last week: one related to my major, one just for fun. It's terrifying walking into a room where you don't know anyone. But I'm trying.

One transfer student told me: "It took me a full semester to find my people. But I did eventually." That gives me hope.

For anyone else in this position: want to grab coffee? Seriously. Message me. Let's be friends.
