I transferred to UT Austin this semester and felt completely lost. Everyone already had friends. I was eating lunch alone, walking to class alone, feeling invisible. Then someone mentioned the Transfer Living Learning Community .

It's a residential program for first-year transfer students, all living together in Jester East Residence Hall . They have peer mentors, regular meetings, and events designed to help transfers connect .

I applied immediately. The idea of living with other transfers — people who also understand what it's like to start over — sounds like exactly what I need.

Has anyone done this program? Is it worth it? I'm desperate for community.

From the official FAQ :
  • Located in Jester East, community bath setup
  • You'll have a roommate who's also in TLC
  • Decisions come out rolling June through July
  • No extra cost—just the regular Jester shared space rate
  • If you have a specific roommate in mind who's also applying, you can request them on the application
Also there's a scholarship for housing if you qualify for Texas Advance Commitment . Worth checking out!
